12th Mediterranean Morphology Meeting

The 12th Mediterranean Morphology Meeting (MMM 12) will take place at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana (Ljubljana, Slovenia) on June 27-30, 2019.

The Mediterranean Morphology Meeting is a biennial conference series that brings together linguists from diverse theoretical backgrounds and at various stages of their career to discuss morphology in an inspiring, informal, and interactive setting.

The conference has a thematic session and an open session. The topic of the thematic day is: The nature of morphological generalizations: rules, patterns, schemas and analogy.

The conference will be preceded by a half-day Workshop on the Morphology of South Slavic languages featuring a special student poster session taking place in the afternoon of June 27th, and it will finish with a trip to the Slovenian coast on June 30th.

The Department of Comparative and General Linguistics and the Department of English at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana are hosting a workshop on the Morphology of South Slavic languages, as part of the 12th Mediterranean Morphology Meeting. [LinguistList announcement]

The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers working on morphological phenomena of South Slavic languages in a variety of theoretical frameworks and methodologies. Contributions concerning cross-linguistic approaches involving South Slavic languages or South Slavic and other languages, as well as experimental/psycholinguistic approaches are especially welcome.

We invite submissions for oral as well as poster presentations.

For *students* who wish to present their on-going projects a special student poster session will be organized.

  • Regular registration: 80 EUR
  • Student discount: 50%

The registration fee covers conference materials, coffee breaks and the welcome reception. The registration form includes participation at the workshop. The conference dinner is payable separately on-site. Participants who expressed an interest for the sunday excursion have already received a separate invoice.

On-site registration, unfortunately, will not be possible for administrative purposes. 

Prices include 22% VAT. Student participants will be asked to provide a proof of their student status upon arrival.

By Train

Ljubljana is an important railroad junction and can be reached by trains from all major European cities. The railway station is within walking distance of the city centre.

By Road

Arriving to Ljubljana by car is easy. Listed below are distances to some nearby cities:

By Air

Ljubljana is best served by its International Airport at Brnik, 23 km northwest of the city, with daily connections to most major European cities. From the airport, Ljubljana can be easily reached either by bus shuttle service to Ljubljana bus station (approx. EUR 10) or by taxi (approx. EUR 40).

You may also find it convenient to use one of the neighboring airports such as:

  • Trieste (Italy), 128 km southwest of Ljubljana
  • Klagenfurt (Austria), 90 km north of Ljubljana
  • Zagreb (Croatia), 141 km southeast of Ljubljana

The conference dinner will take place on Friday, June 28th at Bistro Švicarija. The dinner price is 30 EUR per person and it covers welcome drink, 3-course meal + 1 alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink.

Sunday excursion to the Slovenian coast (June 30th)

  • 9:00  Arrival in Soline/Sečovlje Park
  • Guided tour to the salt panels, visit to the museum and free time in the protected areas. Take your camera! 
  • 11:00  Panoramic boat tour to Piran
  • 12:00  Arrival in Piran and free time for lunch, walk through the narrow streets, visit of old town, swimming, walk to Portorož, coffee, dessert, sunbathing. 
  • 17:00  Departure for Ljubljana

Oral presentations will take place in Room 2, at the ground floor of the main building of the Faculty of Arts. A computer projection system will be provided in the lecture hall. However, presenters can use their own laptops, if they prefer. For any special types of presentation such as video projection, please, let us know in advance.

Poster presentations will take place at the lobby of the main building of the Faculty. We will provide stands for the poster presentations. The posters should be in an upright position (height: 100 cm; width: 70cm).
