- language sign: definitions, particularities, other types of signs
- semantic changes (widening, narrowing, figures of speech; semantic motivation); causes of semantic changes; role of semantic changes in the lexicon; some contemporary theories (for instance, »semantic archeology« by V. Nyckees)
- types of word meaning: denotative and connotative meaning; sens and signification (meaning and sense); lexical and contextual meaning
- terminological apparatus of semantic/component analysis: seme, sememe, lexical unit; claseme; semantic primes, noemes; coherence/cohesion, conceptualization, metaphorization
- cognitive semantics (prototypes, stereotypes, conceptual metaphor)
- sentence semantics, truth-conditional semantics, presuppositions, implicatures, formal semantics
