Contemporary Chinese Politics and Economy 1

In the first part the course includes the explanation of the political system in PR China as well as the variants in Hong Kong and Taiwan. It also describes the development of the current institutions and political organisations. In addition it explains how the state administration works on the central and local level, and overviews the interior political issues and main directions and priorities of China’s exterior policy. The second part of the course focuses on the presentation of the post-war economic development, the economic system with ownership forms, the administrative and business habits and cooperation with foreign countries. Additional explanation is provided through the reading of texts, which are connected to the addressed issues and the current themes that are linked to it. The analysis of the specific terminology used in these texts also deserves special attention.
