Indo-European Comparative Grammar: Accent and Ablaut

Students first familiarize themselves with the principles of the comparative method and reconstruction. They learn the relevant concepts and appropriate terminology. Then they get to know the findings of comparative Indo-European linguistics in relation to the reconstruction of the phonological system in the proto-language and the reconstruction of the accent and ablaut paradigms in the proto-language. They learn about the development of the proto-language accent and ablaut systems in individual historical Indo-European languages, in which the emphasis in on Sanskrit, Greek, Latin, Germanic, and Balto-Slavic languages.
